I have lived in Connecticut and New York City most of my life.  I started sailing recently, only about 3 years ago.  That first experience was enough for me.  I was hooked.  So when a friend, Bill Noble, mentioned that he had a friend sailing around the world, I grilled him for details. You can see the results.

I went to college at the University of Connecticut and graduated in 1989.  I got a job selling life insurance right out of college. The job just didn’t suit me so I began looking for alternatives.

Through a friend, I managed to secure a job interview at Morgan Stanley. I was hired into the Foreign Exchange Department as a clerk and ended up working and learning the business. After 2 years at Morgan Stanley, I was recruited to manage the Currency Options Operations desk of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC). I remained at CIBC until I resigned in October 1996 to join the crew of Out of Bounds.

Everyone at CIBC has been really supportive of my decision to leave on this trip. The bank donated a sail for the boat and my director even ended up buying out the lease on my new truck. I let everyone know I had resigned by sending out a global e-mail explaining that I was leaving to sail around the world for two years. It’s amazing how many people offered to swap places....
